This purse was handwoven in the Japanese Sakiori style of weaving in the tradition “mottainai” or not wasting precious cloth to prolong the fabric’s useful life through recycling and reuse. The Japanese word sakiori comes from “saki,” which means to tear or rip up, and “ori,” which means weave. “Saki” relates to preparing the fabric by striping it into pieces and “ori” refers to weaving it together.

This way of weaving fits in with my continued effort to maintain a zero waste studio, where I recycle old fabric/yarn remnants to include in my weavings.

I hope you will enjoy adding this one-of-a-kind bag to your wardrobe or giving it as a lovely gift.

I do my best to get colors as close as possible, but they do appear slightly brighter on screen and will also vary from screen to screen.

– Gently hand wash cold (remove strap). Air dry. Hot steam iron if needed.
