Bucket Hats, My Latest Obsession

I’m not sure why I’ve become obsessed with making bucket hats especially since I don’t look particularly good in them. I tend to get bored with large or monotonous projects, so maybe the appeal for me is that there are so many styles and yarn variations available to keep my interest.

After trying out many patterns from other makers, I think I have figured out what works for me. I started out making the multicolor stipe hats. I try to run a zero waste studio, as much as possible, so this is a great way to use up my scrap yarns. I started adding eye to the front and then I was asked to do a custom order with a cactus. I’d never crocheted a cactus before, but I like a challenge.

Next, I moved on to cotton hats and then fleece hats. The fleece hats work up really quick and there are some great yarns out there. One of my favorites is Lion Brand Go For Fleece.

I also made one with a mosaic pattern, but forgot to snap a photo before it sold. Mosaic crochet patterns work really well in the round. I think I will making more of the those. I am currently trying to master a checkerboard bucket hat. Very challenging!

Some of my fleece hats are listed in my shop.

With Spring on it’s way, I will be making more cotton hats, so check back soon!
